Moisture inside the left front headlight assembly.

My 2012 GS has moisture inside the left headlight assembly. This is the second time this has happen, the first time the entire assembly was replaced as it was causing that expensive HID bulb to blow, and it was under warranty ($1200) then. Any suggestions to what be might causing this?

Very common issue, seems on only the earlier years of this model. Some claim success in air drying and resealing. The conclusion by the community is the seals in the assembly don't hold up.

Facebook has a running thread on 2011 regal area. Bumper needs to come off, headlight dried (hair dryer etc) and then seat where the lens and black body meet. I plan on sealing in advance and have some stuff on order that is supposedly easy to work with.

Is this the kinda a thing the dealership will repair? Seems they only want to order another new $1200.00 assembly.

That's all the dealer will do, swap out the 'bad part'. You would need to DIY for any other type of repair, or hunt down an aftermarket source for the part and pay someone to install it.

Can you recommend a sealant and where should I apply it?

Guy that has a youtube channel for MB cars uses the following for sealing headlights. Says it is easy to cleanup and apply (water based and can easily get off extra until sets).

The connection between the lens and the black body has a sealant that goes bad. To do it right, need to take the bumper off to get everything.

I just had mine replaced by the dealership, surprisingly was covered by extended warranty I bought. They had to argue with the warranty company, but I only bought the car 2 months ago. I replaced the ballast myself, dried out the inside, and then used window sealant around the entire edge. Totally didn't work. Next time it rained, killed the whole assembly.
