    Buick's Opel

My subconscious Google-Fu worked wonders, and I was looking for something entirely different when all of a sudden I was finding vintage advertisements for "Buick's Opel."

Do a Google "image" search for it, and it's rather impressive.

    My favorite:

I thought that I knew cars, but I didn't know that Buick imported the Manta, back in the day

And yes, this is helping me get over my "Buick Shame."

It was worse than you can even imagine. Eventually, the "Opels" that Buick was importing to the States in the mid 1970s were not even German Opels, but were actually Isuzus made in Japan.

Here is the link that explains it all - http://hooniverse.com/2011/08/13/hoo...opel-by-isuzu/

    Just sad.

    Yeah, nevermind those later shitboxes.

I'm talking about the old Mantas and GTs. Those were great. I'm tempted to check prices on vintage GTs right now...

Some of the old Kadett wagons are pretty great, too.

Not to be a downer, but the Opel GT was the definition of s*itbox. They looked cool for sure, but they were crap. Sorry- but old Opels were nothing like the amazing cars they now build.
