just purchased a 72 stage 1 455 gs in pieces but all numbers and very complete. The car has zero rust and I have what appears to be the original exhaust manifolds with the two manifolds joined to a single exhaust pipe. Anybody heard of this? The bumpers and thru tips also came with the car so it had two exits for sure.

You should have two engine pipes, no idea what that exhaust is.

This site has the one casting part # that visible as a 455 exhaust of that era, but no details on if it a stock or otherwise. The site also has a full 1972 service manual, but the VIN number should be able to get a build sheet to know what it is.

That's a Y pipe. No Stage1 came with single exhaust. That's from another car. Look at your VIN number. If the car is a real Stage 1, the second character will be a G, and the 5th character will be a V. The through the bumper exhaust was an option on the 1971 and 72 cars. It was the N25 option. I added it to my 1970 even though it never came on a 1970 GS.

I double checked the vin and manifold, it a real stage 1. I assumed since the car was so clean underneath the pipes were original but i guess not.
I have to conclude that somebody swapped the exhaust out that way for some unknown reason. That's all that was left plus the chrome tips.
Thanks for the helpful feedback
