My 1989 Reatta has no front brake clips. If I install the hardware with new pads the caliper does not fit in the bracket. The pads will not fit if I placed them in the bracket without inserting into the caliper. Remove the clips and the brake pads fit perfectly.

Do I roll without the hardware or perhaps file down the ends/ears of the brake pads? Vaguely remember a discussion concerning Raybestos pads (shorter in length) as an option for the rear brakes due to the same issue.

If the previous pads are identical and had no clips and you had no issues, don't use them.
I assume the piston has been fully pressed back into the caliper.

No clips, just check the new pads on the contact areas of the caliber for burrs or rough edges before installation.
