(GS) P0014/P0024 Code Possibly Trifecta Related?

This is the second time I'm thrown a P0024 code (cam position related) in a random morning. Both of the occasions I had Trifecta tune active. The first time (November 2020) the code just disappeared when I flashed back to stock for a dealer visit (I thought permanent codes are not removable by OBD tool but maybe Trifecta's software is different?), so I cancelled the dealer visit, no code ever since and no noticeable effects on driving at any moment. I drove tune-less for a whole winter and flashed it back with Trifecta in this spring.

I haven't reverted it this time but will report back on how that goes. I'm gonna shoot a support message to Trifecta but I'm curious if this is encountered by any other members here? Given how many tuned GS'es in existence it might be a very rare case, but still.

Edit: Checked the previous record and seems the codes are not the same, last time it was P0014 ("B" camshaft position - timing over-advanced on system performance bank 1) and this time it is P0024 (change "1" to "2")

I think you are correct that you should check with Trifecta since they would be the only one's to know whether its is related to their changes.
What year and mileage?

Flashed back to stock yesterday, 50km so far and the CEL stayed off. I expected this given the previous experience.
I'm going to run the car without the tune indefinitely until warranty runs out

Have you spoke to guys from Trifecta?

These issues are really challenging to deal with when they are this intermittent. Unfortunately, all you can do is run it on the stock calibration until the issue reproduces and ask the dealership to investigate it. I know it seems like this is tuning related, but seeing as A) This is the only vehicle we’ve had this report on, and B) The issue is only on one bank at any given time (camshaft phase tuning constructs drive both banks simultaneously, not separately), you can rest assured it’s only a coincidence. Given enough time, the issue will occur on the OE calibration.

Had to figure out your at 44k miles. I assume with tune premium is recommended not required, just like OEM tune?

Correct. Though if I remember you are in Vegas so you may want to consider premium a bit more required due to higher intake temps and likely heat soak you will see.

I am pretty cheap...depending on how much spread between 87 and 91 at Costco, and fuel requirements factors my choice of octane. When the spread between grades doubled I started burning 87 in Buick and tried a tank in LS3.
P.S. Almost pulled trigger on TourX tune, but unlike my GM tune on Solstice which kept full factory warranty on it since any GM accessory installed before delivery from GM dealer gets full vehicle warranty... not reduced warranty when installed after vehicle delivery.
Plus GM tune made Coupe have highest specific HP ever, more then any other GM production vehicle.

Thanks, this is exactly what I'm going to do: running stock until it appears again. That way I can take it to the dealer with less worry that they'll not honor the warranty. (or if it appears again only after warranty is out, it makes the situation easier. That's 2 years from now).

If it's due to a hardware failing on me, I will only expect it to re-appear within a shorter time interval.

Silly me I was thinking you were talking about 4 cyl tune. Not sure what not running tune will gain you, other then seeing if code shows on standard tune.
If code or more serious issues develop you still can pull tune and take to dealer. Dealer can deny coverage if tune caused issue, and since they can tell if alien tune was loaded, its like telling wife your not screwing around anymore... If I paid for tune I would want to use it and hopefully have no more issues or cause failure before your coverage is gone anyway.
Hopefully V6 tune is more kickass then turbo 4 tune and if so would miss tune even more.
But don't listen to me, some people think I am crazy.

It's not. There is way more overhead for a tune with the turbo four than the NA six. Just add a little boost and a bit of fuel. Not something you can do with the V6.

Yeah thats true generally, but with the GMPP tune on the LNF engine they had to change boost pressure sensors. Standard Bosch sensors could not sense the higher boost pressures since the standard sensors would be maxed out below the higher boost.

Two reasons I returned to stock:
- code only appeared, in both cases, while tune is applied
- as soon as I flash it to stock, which I prefer to do before any warranty work, code is deleted. I'm pretty sure dealer isn't gonna do warranty work based on a code that I claim was there, even if I have PhD in mechanical engineering

And since there's no code right now (and no CEL), I'll have to run the car until the code appears again. It's 300+km in and not yet there.

Guessing code will not show with OEM tune, since you say it has only appeared with alien tune.
No doubt telling them your education background, will make them believe you know what your talking about.
Still not sure why you are not using tune unless you don't miss it, or it causes failure that makes you unable to load original tune.
Since they can tell you loaded a warranty killing tune your only hope is they will be nice or not check for update to software.
Do not listen to me since my track record on decisions is questionable at best, I dropped out of college to get a job for $1.65 an hour to buy 70 TA.

If you really want to know sooner rather than later, you could flash the tune one more time. If the code pops again, take it to an independent shop and explain the circumstances to them. They'll want to blame your tune, too, but it doesn't really matter what their opinion on that is. They're just there to see if the cam phasing is actually funky. If they find an actual problem, you have two options: return to stock and wait for it to pop for a warranty fix at a dealer, or just do a customer pay and have the independent shop fix it right then without telling GM.

1500 kms after going back to stock and I thought it's worthy to update here.

No code yet, but it's expected given the previous experience.
Interestingly, the fuel consumption went down from 11.6 to 11.1 L/100km, at the same average speed of 36km/h and over 1000 kms of range for both.

Interestingly, this time the P0024 code came back pretty quickly, only to disappear again on its own after 2 days of presence. Bringing it to dealer anyway and I'm sure they have a way to check history on the codes.
