Well well I'm hoping to get some help. I'm a new first time Buick owner I bought a 1980 3.8 Buick regal and I'm finding it a lot tougher than I thought it would be to find parts for this old car but I found out it was a 1-year specific. So I was changing all the belts and pulleys how to wobble in the harmonic balancer pulled it off and it looked nothing like the new doorman harmonic balancer I bought. Every place I look online not one of them looks like the original OEM harmonic balancer. Am I missing something here or does this part just not exist anymore? Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated thank you.

Is the Dorman part# 594-142, if not what number do you have?

Hey thank you for the reply! So yes that is the part # the problem is the compressed cylinder shaft that goes into the block is about 3/4" short and is to big around to fit also the bolt patterns don't match up. I don't know if I'm missing something here. I'll be home in about 15min and I'll post a few pics to show the issue I am having.

So here you can see there's a significant depth difference in the compressed cylinder of the factory OEM and the dorman. Not only that but the cylinder on the dorman it's a lot bigger and unable to fit in the block. Also the bolt patterns on the aftermarket did not match the bolt patterns on the pulley. For some reason I'm thinking that the aftermarket balancer is made for a serpentine belt drive while mine is a v belt. Could that be the case?

There is definitely a difference between the two styles, but it's odd that one wouldn't be available as GM was tossing that engine in anything that moved. Possible design change but you may want to check with a GM parts person on this or check with the members of the gbody forum. Maybe someone else on this one might know more about that balancer as it looks correct on the diagram unfortunately there wasn't a GM# listed.
