Could be an HUD, probably the dash is generic but the option wasn’t choose so hardware’s installed but no controls. I had a car in the past that have tilt steering installed but no Harm but a cap on the tilt harm control stick hole!!!

Collision alert.
Not a HUD.
It flashes a horizontal bar of red LED and reflects on the windshield when your vehicle is about to crash into something in front of you.
You will also hear a beeping sound when that happens. (Don't remember if we can turn that off or not...checking owner's manual)

Looks like we can turn it off. (Although I do not recommend that)

You were on the right track: it would be a HUD if GM had allowed it for us. I and I think many of us here would've gladly paid a few extra bucks for that and a few other missing lux items (higher quality leather, and ventilated seats) on my TourX Essence.

It showed it as an option in my owners manual, are you sure it wasn’t offered ?

I would much rather have the HUD than a row of red LEDs that flash for no apparent reason. I have had the collision warning go off a few times and was never in any danger of a collision. Of all the "safety features", this one is by far the worst. I would gladly pay $300 or so to have HUD.

I believe those of us who optioned everything on our wagon would do that in a heartbeat too...

FWIW, the collision alert is overly sensitive with the HUD units too. They just have the dramatic car crash image instead. But I hear you, I don't see the point of something flashing on the windshield unless there is other information to be displayed as well.

It really should have been included in one of the Sportback and TourX trims, especially the Sportback Avenir. A TourX Avenir without cladding, or body color cladding, and a HUD would have been the ticket.

Same...mine has gone off in the most random places - only once did it activate appropriately in a sudden stop in a construction zone. It definitely is effective in getting your attention. Interesting that the system may apply brakes for pedestrian impact (uses sensor at rear view mirror) vs not applying brakes for vehicle impact (using sensor behind the grille)...

I was driving on an interstate when I noticed everyone was moving into the left lane. I signaled, merged into the left lane and my car abruptly stopped itself. Turned out, another person in front of the car I merged behind evidently thought you change lanes and brake check the truck behind you. I had just gone for the brake pedal when it dropped under my foot. Forward Collision Avoidance, in my experience, works.

I drive like a butthead. It has never intervened for me.

Glad to hear it does work though.
