Intermittent starting problem - must be a passkey problem!

Replaced starter and starter relay. Still intermittent starting problem. Remembered having to bypass VAT on my other RM with the correct resistor soldered into the two wires under dash.

This time not sure if it is the key reader like last time, or the passkey VAT module. Using two other keys does the same thing. Not the key!!

The car starts most of the time. Now I see the "pass key" light does not go out (never flashes) when there is a starting problem. When it goes out after 3-4 seconds, always starts. Now, wait until the pass key light goes out before trying, and it starts every time the light goes out. Using two other keys does the same thing. Not the key!!

This failure to start occurs about once every 6 attempts to start the car. Ordered the right resistor, but could it be the VATS module? Could it act the same way as the key reader in the ignition resulting in intermittent starting? Or does failure in the module result in no starts at all without fixing.

Thanks to all who have tried to help in the past.

The problem was solved by soldering the right resistor into the pass key circuit where it comes out of the steering wheel bundle under the dash.
