Low beam headlights

My low beam lights stopped working as I was trying to dim headlights at night, functioned switch but there was a resistance in the switch but finally switched with force which made low beams quit working. What could be the problem?

Seems "switched with force" would be the answer. A new switch may be in order if the old one was forced to operate and may be broken.
