I am not sure what came over me, but on one of my recent trips I decided to see just how much fuel mileage I could squeeze out of the GS. I also thought it would be fun to start a thread where we all try to best each other. At the very least, let's see what the GS, Sportback, and TourX are made of.

What's your best/worst 50 mile average MPG?

Rules of the Game
  1. Pics or it didn't happen
  2. Provide driving conditions (average speed, road type, topography, etc.)
  3. Grade and ethanol content of fuel used (87, 91, 93... 0%, 10%, 15%, etc.)

I'm no hypermiler and who knows how accurate our MPG calculators are, but here was my formula for the first attempt:
  • Midwest highway (little to no elevation changes)
  • ACC set to 70 mph
  • Follow distance GAP set to closest setting
  • Drafted a semi truck/trailer averaging 64 mph
  • I had the A/C on (couldn't sacrifice comfort 🤷‍♂️)
  • 87 octane fuel
While I was still behind the semi:

After coasting down the exit ramp and state road off of the highway: IMG_20190920_184903.jpg

Overall trip average. Roughly 80% highway, 15% rural, 5% city. Not bad for a vehicle with a rating of 27 MPG highway... IMG_20190920_185305.jpg

Of course, you have this idea *after* I just made an ideal trip on Sat night! Late night 60 mile highway run with little traffic.

I like the idea, but unfortunately I don't often do highway cruises, so around-town will kill any 50 mile average. I tend to be hovering around 26MPG in my TourX all around.

Hey, you can still shoot for the worst fuel mileage! I had to think of some way to make the "competition" inclusive to anyone on here in hilly/mountainous areas... or anyone that has a lead foot. Do your best! Or worst??? Lol

For fuel used, please report your ethanol content! That is the important point wrt fuel (octane not so much). The options are typically 0%, 10% or 15%.

I will have to report back later. I have never gone for a specific 50 mile record, but my car is reporting 35.3MPG as a max.

I swear I don't have a lead foot...
I just live so close to work where taking the highway would be longer in both distance and time. So, it is 100% city/suburb driving.
Guess I can shoot for the worst mileage?

12K miles, about 28 mpg lifetime. I drive sort of fast, but avoid using the brakes as much as possible.

I also see 28 avg mpg from day 1 at 9k miles and hate converting momentum to wasted heat energy :)

That was set in May 2018 between Grand Canyon North Rim and Kanab, UT averaging approx. 65mph. I am to tell the world my wife was driving at the time.
