Encore
Took the Encore for our first “week long” trip. Loved it.
(1 year old 7K miles – mostly driven by my wife)

It was my first opportunity to drive the car any great distance…..
Our Radio is only the Non-Bose version (didn’t feel the added cost was needed)

Took me a while, but I (perhaps) finally settled on setting the Tone controls to:
Bass – All the way Up
Mid – all the way Down
Treble – ½ way

Granted highly subjective – but this provided some reasonable low volume bass response – least what I’d call “Wife” Volume

Anyone else have such a similar experience?

I have the Bose system but bass up, treble flat ( midway ) and then adjust mid to suit usually works well on most car audio systems. If there is going to be any harshness it typically is in the midrange where your ears are most sensitive. The net effect of your settings is typical of a loudness curve programmed into most modern amplifiers anyway which boosts the lows and highs and lowers mids for low level listening. When you crank it though, it likely will get a bit muddy but chances are the volumes you use are normal.

Try a cd for best results. Xm is ok but some of the digital formats are lacking today. I also have the non-Bose and usually listen to XM or audio podcasts. Even with very sensitive hearing the volume level is close to half way up!
