Steering wheel offset after turning

I having some steering issues with my 01 LeSabre.

After turning to the left, the steering wheel returns to straight. After turning to the right, the steering wheel returns to a crooked position that’s about 45 degrees off to the right. If I turn to the left again, it straightens back out.

Also, if the steering wheel is turned hard for a fast curve, the car doesn’t react immediately.

I thought it was the rack and pinion so I replaced it with a used rack and pinion that was supposedly in good shape, but I’m still having the same problem.

Any suggestions?

Did you drain all the PS fluid and replace with Lucas Synthetic fluid? You could have another bad rack/PS pump, but the whole fluid system needs to be evacuated and changed before condemning other parts.

I replaced the PS fluid, but not with synthetic.

Is there any problem with the alignment? Proper caster, camber, toe-in?
Is it the caster that returns the steering to the middle position?

Any dry ball joint or tie rod end keeping the unit from wanting to go to the
neutral position on its own?
