I have 6 months and 7500 miles on Pennzoil Platinum synthetic oil in my 2003 with a Pure One filter. It looks clear with just a tinge of color like fresh oil.

Change oil indicator is at 35%.

When do I decide to change this oil?

At 100,000 this was the first synthetic after years of regular oil changed at 2500-4000 miles, depending on how much cold weather we had in Ohio.

I would suggest changing it now, and sending a sample to a lab like blackstonelabs (http://www.blackstone-labs.com/). $22.00 goes a long way in determining whether or not the oil could potentionally go longer with no side negative effects to the engine.

A lot of it depends on driving habits? Do you make a lot of short trips? Or long highway trips? Are you easy on the car, or balls to the wall?

I'm changing it. I saved a sample. It may be worth $22.50 to have a lab test on this first run of synthetic.

I always use synthetic. I drive mostly highway miles but I change it every 5000 miles anyway. Probably that's more often than needed, but I do it myself and I'd rather be safe than sorry.
