Hi, I'm looking to buy my wife another Buick lacrosse. I was told the 3.6 had timing chain problems. does anyone know when this problem was fixed or is it still a problem.

I know for sure the 2.4 Ecotecs have timing chain issues (not sure about the 3.6 but it wouldn't surprise me). My 2012 needed changing along with the guides at 80K kms (around 50k miles). Luckily it happened 2 months before the warranty expired. So much for timing chains lasting the life of the vehicle.

Would those have timing chains or timing belt?

Does your current LaCrosse have the 3800 or 5.3? If so I would keep it. I would not buy any 3.6 vehicle. The 3800 is a far better motor than the 3.6 which unfortunately replaced it.
