Hey Everyone,

I need some help....

I installed the Trifecta tune for my 2011 Regal T07 Manual Transmission about a week ago. About 2 days after the tune, while my wife was driving the car, the check engine light came on. I ran the codes when she got home and it said P2261, which is the Turbo Bypass Valve. I cleared the code and hoped that it was just a fluke and wouldn't come on again.

However, a few days later, which was today, the check engine light came back on, this time while I was driving. It's the same P2261 code and now also a P0171 code (Fuel Trim System Lean, Bank 1).

Have any of you heard of this before? I assume it has something to do with the tune. What do you recommend I do?

Also.... I did start using E85 gasoline at the time of the tune. The car has about 15k miles.

Thanks!

Not too keen on the Regal Turbos, however, with the amount of HP and added boost the tune makes, ditch that E85 ASAP!!!

Ditch the E85??? Trifecta, who makes the tune, says the car runs best with E85 when running a tune. If I'm not mistaken, E85 is actually 105 Octane!

Many of us here are running Vince's tune with E85 and no problems. I believe you are the first. I have 12k on mine and have never run anything but E85 95% of the time. Uninstall the tune and contact Vince to make sure the file for your car is correct. Tell him you are running E85 and having issues. He should be able to help.

Is your gas cap yellow? If not, you cannot run E85 in your car.

Please keep us posted

I know that E85 causes a code on the GS tune. The cars have identical engines. The difference is the boost. More boost means more fuel. E85 also needs more fuel than typical gas. After some research we concluded that the reason the GS can't use E85 from the factory was not enough fuel delivery for both the added boost and E85. Fast forward to your issue, The tune equals GS boost so E85 and tune could mean you get the code. The reason all tunes may not get the code is the variation between fuel additives and engines tolerances. 15% of E85 is additives and can vary between gas station.

Just to be sure it isn't E85, Run the E 85 out and fill it with normal gas. Clear the code again and try it for a week or two. If you still get the code then it isn't E85. Simple... That worked for the other member.

Not trying to be Captain Obvious here but have you contacted Vince about this?

I had the same issue at the track with E85. I forget the code but it was along the lines of the same thing. Never came back on though. I posted about it in my thread about the drag strip. Since it never came back on with or without E85, I honestly never gave it a second thought.

I have been running 85 in my tunes Regal for over a year (The only non e85 my car has ever had was the initial tank from the dealer) and I haven't had a single check engine light. I would contact the reseller you purchased from or Vince directly through wot-tuning.com

I just contacted WOT-Tuning/Trifecta about the issue. They said....

"P2261 indicates a mechanical problem with the bypass valve. Usually meaning it is getting stuck open. P0171 is likely being triggered because of it.

You'll need to inspect the bypass valve and either repair (sometimes it will just need to be re-lubricated) or replace it.

This is not something specific to the tune though (it happens to stock vehicles too), so you'll likely be able to get it fixed under warranty if you flash back to stock and take it in. The chances of it happening again with a new bypass are slim"

It's at the shop right now getting the Bypass Valve re-lubricated. If it comes on again I'll have them replace it with an upgraded one from Forge Motorsport. I'll keep everyone posted.

WOT-Tuning/Trifecta has been GREAT, by the way. I would strongly recommend their tune.

Thanks DonRican! If re-lubricating the bypass valve doesn't work, I'll try that.
