I was doing some comparison to see just how quiet the Verano is and here is what I found form Edmunds Inside Lane:

2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R with sound levels:
  • Sound level @ idle (dB) 38.7
  • @ Full throttle (dB) 72.7
  • @ 70 mph cruise (dB) 64.1

Lexus LS 460

Sound level @ idle (dB)37.2
Full throttle (dB)68.3
70 mph cruise (dB)62.5

2011 Equus:
  • Sound level @ idle (dB) 39.5
  • @ Full throttle (dB) 72.4
  • @ 70 mph cruise (dB) 61.4

2009 Genesis V6 Sedan:
  • Sound level @ idle (dB) 39.6
  • @ Full throttle (dB) 70.8
  • @ 70 mph cruise (dB) 63.5

2012 Buick Verano Turbo

Sound level @ idle (dB)40.8
Full throttle (dB)70.2
70 mph cruise (dB)61.8

Not bad. IMO the Verano is the perfect small luxury car. 🙂

Re: Hoq quiet is the Verano?

Thanks for the numbers. It's interesting that the Verano does not seem to be quite as quiet as some other cars when at idle, but it is quieter than almost every car at cruising velocity. So it's not as insulated from general noise, but it's better insulated from road and wind noise?

Exactly what I was thinking. Although I doubt someone could really tell a difference between 1 decibel.

All I know is they are very quiet, especially at their price point. Look at the cars being compared in that chart = $$$$ Seriously, the one we drove was very quiet at idle.

Re: Hoq quiet is the Verano?

One of the reasons I started looking at the Verano for purchase was it had been rated as one of the top quiet cars (cabin). So I purchased one and have found it to be as advertized. The highway I drive (50 miles one way) every day has the world's worse surface topping (cheap, cheap, cheap county jobs). In fact the repair areas are smoother than the rest of the road surface... While I could wish for even more noise reduction, at least now I get home with out the headaches and ringing in my ears! The Altima I was driving was fun and with 218k miles on it, can't complain, but is really nice to have the quieter car! Just my experience.

Just a bump to bring it back on top. 🙂

I have a 2012 Lacrosse and test drove the Verano last week. I was amazed at how quiet it was....every bit as quiet as my Lacrosse I felt.

I do think the Verano is as quiet as the LaCrosse also. We had a rental 2010 LaCrosse back in 2013 with only 3,000 miles and the tires were noisy. I was thinking that 3K miles in three years that the tires were dried out creating the extra noise. Though the longer wheel base did ride better than the Verano's shorter length.

Just spent the last 4 days in a 2015 Malibu rental, quieter than our '13 Verano, but I think the biggest factor was the tires. I've talked to a lot of people with these same Continentals on other cars, and they all say the same, they are very noisy.

My 2013 Verano is quieter in many areas than my 2013 Malibu 2.5, floor the malibu and Im sure you will want back in the Verano asap lol... (if its the turbo)

Larger cars ( like the malibu) have a way of seeming more quite.

The Verano tires are quite when aired up to 33psi hot IMO. I replaced the contis with Nitto INOVS and to my surprise once I lowered them to 32psi they are just as silent.

The 2.4 Verano I had, for some reason just didnt seem to be a quite and refined as my turbo model. Just a point.

I have a 2015 Turbo Verano and I have a fair amount of road noise at almost any speed - it doesn't seem any more quiet at 65 mph than my old 2007 Acura TSX or my wife's 2011 Toyota Highlander. There's also a resonance at 1400 RPM that is palpable through the seats.

Overall, the noise is not disturbing, but I expected a quieter car based upon all of the posts on various forums and reviews about how quiet the Verano is. Perhaps the Turbo is noisier than the non-Turbo model.

One more thing: I don't see any sound-deadening material in my trunk (at least in the top) - just bare metal. I have not peeked at another Verano's trunk to see if that's the norm or if somebody forgot to add something in Detroit.
