Buick Ownership
2012 Regal GS 6spd Nav WDTC Led converison,
Been a GS owner for about a month now and I am in love. Searching the forum as well as the things that you can only learn by owning and driving a GS. I have come to one conclusion. The HK system just dosn't give me the sound quality that Iam looking for. Only thing I know is that its Subwoofer time!!!! But I am torn between the JL w7 and the Kicker L7. Going with 12's for both I just cant seem to lean hard one way or another. money is important but I'm not going to let it be the decision maker because lets face it. As a GS owner you don't mind paying a little bit more for quality.

Any Thoughts?

Good luck getting a box for 2 W7's to fit into the trunk. ..... I tried

The problem I had with putting 12" W7's in the GS was designing a 3.5 cubic foot box that would fit into the trunk opening. Even using box design software. I also measured the trunk pass through with the back seats out. That's your best bet, but it's not going to be easy!
As far as sound quality goes, I own kicker comps(not L7's) and W7's. I'm a JL fan!

Why not dc, fi, Audioque? Our stock electrical system blows, I'm only pushing about 700wrms and it dims bad, but a second battery and built alt isn't in the picture. Just saying, imo throw a 10 or 12 with a few hundred Watts and a nice set of components upfront with a 4 channel and call it done. The hk speakers are junk.

I'd run AQ. Or DD if it were my car. One 12 much

JL is a good product and makes a different clean bass. Just grew up on kickers. I see your point, I have a 2k watt alpine 6 ch amp to run these bad boys. But after a demo from the local shop it seems like that one would be enough. Have you thought of their ported "JL Design" box? They had a few on display. But 900 for one.

They are. Are we dealing with individualy powered speaker for the HK? Or Did they learn from the late Bose issues?

I've had countless 150+ Db set Ups in my day, Wish i could upload pics... But no way would i ever pay that much for A sub box... Even my walls for 4 15s only Cost me 150 Max. If you sealed the trunk Off from the cab and fired sub n port towards driver, these cars will get very loud. L7s have Krylon junk voice coils, but they have more cone area so they tend to get louder... Jl is expensive... frankly for the price there is way better.

No idea, i threw a set of hybrid audios n a good 400x4 and they crap all over stock.

Hybrid audios? I will have to check them out. To clarify it was box and w7 for 900 but yeah it was a tough pill to swallow. Best Buy has a L7 box combo for 460 range. I plan to try it out for low 400 if not under with a Amazon price match. Ill give it a week of proper break in to see whats what. Thanks for the imput.

Getting it done today! Went with a more logical approach. 1 12inW6V3. Per my "stero Guy" he is honest and I have known him for years. He always asks two questions. Budget and expected outcome? 850 and alot of bass. So we will see what is what tonight. Going to post pics of the mods I have done in the past month or so of owning this bad boy I like to call "White lightnin'"

good, w7's are played out and stupid expensive for what you get.. and l7's belong in a 97' honda hatchback.
in for pix

socal1987,
good pick on the 12W6V3. Strong, Tight sub. (also built in the good ole' :patriot: USA :patriot:)
I've been a JL fan since the 90's.
I almost exclusivley buy JL products. I'm more into sound quality than sound pressure, but sometimes I crank that shit!
I know there are "better" (reference wise) drivers than JL, but they reproduce my music clear and loud with little signal processing and "almost" everything I've ever bought from them still works.
I am verrrry loyal to people and products that haven't done me wrong.

^^^G-CODE, MOFO. lesson number one.^^^^

What happened to Car Audio Magazines? Other than P.A.S.,, I haven't seen one in years

Just played with it a little bit. Not sure if it was the hype that built me up or just the years of having kicker. But not so impressed. Not sure if I am used to crap music quality but everyone said it sounds great inside. Our regals have so much sound dampering tech that it holds all of the bass inside. Not expecting to bring down the walls of jericho but at least rattle my side mirrors. lol

I have 30days to swap or upgrade this bad boy. I have come up with the three options.

1. Go ported
2. Go with 1 more plus an amp
3. Go L7(buy from best buy hook it up in the parking lot and feel the difference.)

Stereo shop dose not stock L7's but they can swap me out for the same
set up at best buy.

Wow having what I call a top quailty car makes you feel cheap as hell putting the same crap you did in your civic.

Go to www.ram-designs.com send him Ur measurements and enjoy.

People fail to realize a systems heart and soul are the amp and enclosure. Look up Pete from hexibass flexing that of a pair of 15s with one 8...

You door speakers will vibrate your side view's more than a sealed enclosure in the trunk of your GS. The back seats are THICK in this car. Fold down the rear armrest and have your Installer put some "ports" in that carpet covered plastic panel that divides the trunk from the cabin.(It helps)
You should have used a ported enclosure!

You probably have the harman/kardon system. Some things I have experienced while trying to Keep my stock head unit and upgrading speakers in this car.
The H/K amp does weird sound processing to the rear shelf speakers(subs) at higher volumes. If you use those speaker wires as signal wires to your aftermarket amp that powers your sub you will get some retarded bass response at certain frequencies. H/k probably does this to keep everyone from blowing the 6x9's every other month.

I've got more to say but I gotta work. :hail:YES BOSS, right away
