The silver trim around the exhaust has some rust on them . after this crazy winter we have had here in chicago . my 13 GS with 7500 miles do you think they will cover this under warrenty ??? will post a picture later

I usually use chrome polish as that is what I had laying around. I was out of town and picked up headlight lense restorer. It works so much better than the chrome polish as the tips on my Verano look painted silver. My tips get dirty quick having no cats.

exhaust tips are iffy sometimes but im pretty sure its 4 years bumper to bumper warranty. if you have a good dealer/service id see them taking care of that for you even if its not because thats not exactly an expensive fix.

I have that rust on the top edges of the silver exhaust trim too. I wiped of initially, but haven't cleaned them up recently. Might try some wheel cleaner that's safe for paint. Looks like the rust might be from panel screws or connectors from the bumper. Not sure.

I had this happening on mine, mentioned it to the dealer while I was in last. They looked into it, said there is a bulletin for it. I didn't have it done cause he said I would have to leave it as it requires the bumper to be removed and I was just there for an oil change. Will have this fixed in the next week or so and post back.

My 2013 GS with ~7500 miles also has the exhaust trim rust issue...getting worse as winter from hell in MN continues. If you guys find the bulletin number please let me know.

my tip is always dirty.... the trim you could use some metal polish. I personally wouldnt take it to the dealership for something so small.
not that it's a big deal but a new car should not rust . I keep the car as clean as you can during the winter but this year has been very hard to do with snow every couple of days .

I've got the same rust issue. it seems like its a fastener above the ports that is rusting. I'll add it to my list of things to get fixed and go from there...

Any updates? Did you get a bulletin number? I asked my dealer about it and they said there was no bulletin but they cleaned the rust residue.

I just got mine back today after a few corrections including this one. They replaced some bumper fasteners with SS to prevent rusting on the exhaust trim. They also replaced the exhaust trim inserts - looks like it just rolled of the assembly line! No carbon black for now... Will post pics later... No bulletin number, but they said it was a known problem so there was the fastener material change.

Thank you QSilverGS. I will be taking the car back for some additional warranty work including this and a rocker cover that is rubbing on the bottom of my driver door. The dealer said that was normal as well but I don't agree, since the paint has worn off from the contact.

No problem!

PS - I watch the bottom corner of my driver door almost rub the rocker/sill when I open it too... Panel fit is a good indicator of quality and shouldn't an issue on these either. Maybe this will be another thread...

I noticed this on mine too. It gets turned in, in 2 months so I'm not going to worry about it. I also noticed that the wheels locks on the inner part are also starting to rust.

My trim around my exhaust is also exhibiting the rust marks. Looks like I'll be stopping in. I like to batch problems, and I think I have enough to schedule another dealer visit.

- rust marks on the exhaust trim
- noisy hvac fan
- grinding 1-2 and 2-3 shift
- hvac smell

Also, I had my passenger door rubbing into the rocker panel bad enough where that started to rust. They have fixed it, but it's hard to tell how well that fix will hold up.

New inserts, clean as they get..

Def get it done under warranty. Retail is 278.00 each lol

I called my dealer in VT and mentioned the same thing. I said the bumpers rusty. They said it's plastic, it shouldn't be rusting. I think it's the fasteners as mentioned already. They are going to look into the problem next week. I too had the center caps plastic layer coming apart that they replaced for free. The tips should also be replaced for free I'm sure. Thanks for any service bulletin as this dealer never sees these and I always have to bring the print out and SB code.

Hi All!
Has anyone thought about extending the actual exhaust pipe through the port? I just got my GS and it came with black carbon exhaust ports but I find that wheel cleaner gets some of it off but not all. I am old school and I like the old school look - just some polished tips please!
If you have seen a BMW X5 then you know the look I am thinking about for the GS. I will see what I can find that looks right and post pics once done. (stay tuned) If you have done something like this, please let me know what and I would like to see some pics.

Thanks!

Once the weather broke I cleaned them with some polish and they have been fine . I put some wax on them before winter or clear coat them . Maybe that will help I hate to have the bumper takin off to fix the problem
