Keyless Entry Remote Programming

Hi guys.

Tom ('95 Roadmonster) pointed out that remote programming for keyless entry is a common issue with our cars.

Does anyone have information on programming the keyless entry remotes for our cars?

I have the instructions for my '99 Rivi and '00 Denali, and they are totally different.

I haven't needed to do this for my RM yet.

(My wife and daughter are great at losing keys, so I have several extra remotes and key sets for those cars 😉 )

Anyone???

Stewart

p.s. is there a difference for the different model years?

If so, lets post them all 🙂

I'd like to know too. I have only one remote, and even though I changed the batteries, sometimes it takes a couple of pushes for the doors to lock or unlock. So it might be time for a new one.

This should be good for 94-96 🙂

There is a "programming connector" plug with two wires, both black and white striped, coming into the backside of the plug and nothing plugged into the plug. To reprogram the remote keyless system, you will put a paper clip or some short wire into the plug to connect across the two terminals to connect the wires together.

If you redo one transmitter, you will have to redo all transmitters. Connecting across the two terminals in the "programming connector" will make the system forget about all of your transmitters.

1. Sedan: look for the connector inside the left side of the trunk compartment behind the insulation.

2. Wagon: remove the right back body pillar finish panel to access the connector.

3. Using a paper clip or some short wire, connect across the two terminals in the connector. The system will click as it locks and then unlocks the locks.

4. Press any key on your transmitter. The system will go through the lock unlock cycle again a couple of times to confirm the reprogramming.

5. If you want to disable the unlock on shifting into Park feature, perform the following sequence three times with no more than one second between presses. Press the door lock button, press the door unlock button, press the trunk button. Repeat the sequence two more times with no more than one second between button presses.

The receiver will cycle through the lock, unlock, trunk sequence three times as verification.

6. To program a second transmitter to the car, repeat steps 4, and if desired step 5.

7. Disconnect the paper clip or short wire across the two terminals on the "programming connector".

8. Now for the step which isn't in the manual. Use one of the transmitters to lock and then unlock the doors before cranking the engine to test it.

9. Now, you are finished.

if it is I will change it.

Just browsed through the forum before sleep; about the Wagon: I found it on the left side.

H A P P Y N E W Y E A R ! ! !

Were all 94 - 96 Roadmasters equipped with the ability to use remotes, or is there a RPO number that I need to look for on the rear deck lid sticker?

My Roadmaster didn't come with any remotes from the previous owner.

I need to reprogram the remote for my '95 wagon. Is it the left d pillar?

Yep, you dont have to even take off the cover, just bend it back and pull out the connector, short the two leads push the button on your remote.

i would like to know two things

1: is the process the same for 91-93 roadies? and 2: anybody got any spare remotes for a 91-93? my car is equipped with the option but i never got the remotes with the car so i would like to get some

For anyone who wants it this is a link to an eBay seller with the keyless remotes. If I am not to post links I am sorry and will delete it just let me know. Thanks. Plus I have one of these remotes and it is awesome.

I have a 91 wagon with Keyless Entry, but I don't have a Programming Conector in the harness. WTF?😕 I took the rear panel off and the harness was just like it looks on the diagram, but no connector. Does anyone else own a 91 wagon?

When I first started looking for info about the Keyless remote I did some internet searches - the answer you need is probably out there...I only remember that the first year Roadmasters were different - wont swear to it but I think its under the dashboard at a diagnostics connector used in servicing the cars. Wish I could help you more, good luck.

You know that you are to make the harness reset from the wires by connecting the two prongs together. Use a crosshead "Phillips" screwdriver, just hold it in between the prongs and you will hear the car lock, and then unlock. Then just hold the lock button on the keyless and their you go.

No, the 91-3 cars had a different procedure. It's a tad more annoying but if your keyless module still works it's not bad. These are wagon instructions, I'm sure the sequence for the sedans is the same but I don't know where the programming lead is.

1 - Open the rear gate and remove (yes remove) the left cargo plastic, the one with the lockable storage.
2 - Turn the ignition key to on (do not start the engine)
3 - You should find a dangling connector, near the wiring harness. This connector needs to be grounded to the body. There is an existing ground nearby which works well.

Once you ground the wire, the locks should cycle indicating you are in program mode.

4 - Press a button on one of the remotes and the locks should cycle again to confirm the program. Press a button on your second remote to program it.
5 - Remove the ground and turn off the ignition. Your remotes should work!
