Dealer Oil Change

Does anyone know what oil manufacturer and type (full synthetic or blend) the Buick dealers use for the maintenance that's included for the first 2 years?

They have to use the same grade/dexos standard specified in the manual.

I'm pretty sure they use the oil labeled AC Delco dexos1 5W-30. It's what's for sale in the parts department if you really want to buy their oil. No idea who makes the oil for GM, however; but I believe it's a synthetic blend.

That is correct, for your 2 years of oil changes you get the Delco Dexos 2 5W-30, for an additional cost you can upgrade to Mobil 1 Full Synthetic or another full synthetic that your GM Dealer carries, since day one I have ran the Mobil 1. And for the records the Delco Dexos Semi Synthetic is a great oil, I work at a GM Dealer and know some about it, enough to have ran it in my 5.3 pick up since 2011, but choose Mobil 1 for my Regal as I run it harder, and also higher engine temps etc

Thank you for the replies. The reason I asked is because I also prefer a full synthetic oil. I had changed the oil with around 1500 miles with Mobil 1 and a K&N filter, if I bring it to the dealer for the complimentary oil change, I will request the full synthetic.

You only get the standard oil for free. If you want full syn, you'll have to pay extra. I just buy Mobil 1 at Costco when it's on sale and bring it to the dealer.

It also depends how long you go between oil changes. If you use the oil life monitor (which I wouldn't...) then go fully synthetic, or if you drive it quite hard also go fully synthetic. If you're doing more frequent oil changes (i.e. 3mo/5000k) then the dexos is perfectly fine. No sense paying more for no reason unless you'll actually benefit.

Why wouldn't you go by the OLM? I only go by the OLM. Still under warranty so it goes to the dealer and based on earlier in this thread someone said delco dexos 2 5w-30

Thanks for testing. It's good to know how long it lasts since I'm still under my freebie old changes.

I am sure they will happily let the customer bring in their Mobil 1 when the dealer was on the hook for the bill in the first place. I imagine they would take a dimmer view of it on a customer pay job.
