Buick Ownership
2017 LaCrosse
I have a 2017 LaCrosse with 55,000 miles. I had paint sealant applied to it when I bought it (bought it new). A few years later I had another coat of paint sealant applied by a detailer. Now the paint/clearcoat is coming off. I have taken the care to 2 different body shops and they both said the problem was a bad paint job from the factory. Has anybody else had this problem and will Buick take care of it?

It will be interesting to hear what/if anyone else has to say about their paint. My LaCrosse is 2 years older than yours and I have had zero issues with the paint. I'm amazed by how well the paint (Garnet) has held up for the last 10 years. If it weren't for stone chips it would still be perfect!

I remember very well the horrible problems GM had with some of their paint jobs in the '80s. Hope yours doesn't go that direction.

I'm waiting to see if anyone else has this problem as well. With only 55,000 miles I shouldn't be having this problem, especially when I've always had paint sealant on the car.

If it is the white frost tricoat, it is a common issue with the color. there are a couple different names for it depending if cadillac or not. It is very annoying without a real solution other than repainting the effected area and hopefully blending in properly. even factory tricoat color variation from one batch of cars to another varies, have to really trust the paint shop to fix it with an end result not too noticeable.

on my 2018 lacrosse, along the passenger roof drain channel it has peeled a bit and along driver rear window drain channel. coated with clearcoat after removing any other loose or flaking paint. year and a half later and no expanding of problem areas. those 2 spots not painted since it would cost too much to redo the entire roof and rea side pillars until it gets to a point where more fails... hopefully not for a long while though lol. trying to match in those 2 areas with the rest would be near impossible without doing a large area repair to fade in properly. tldr my bumper replaced 2 times and passenger fender once. all instances of these replaced parts couldnt get paint to match perfect with factory job. the second bumper that i had a shop do, they were excellent where they faded/gradiented different portions of the bumper to the fenders to better match but under certain lighting conditions can still tell not perfect with the body factory paint job.

best of luck with paint repairs, they are annoying to deal with.

Thank you for your input. My paint color is actually a shade of green (Dark Forest Green I think). I took the car to a GM certified body shop and they gave me an estimate of $5600. Mind you that's just for the hood, roof, and trunk! They also told me the windshield has bubbles all the way around the outer edge, which means the 2 layers of glass are separating from the safety film that is sandwiched in between. I just feel like GM/Buick should help me with this because a proper paint job should last a lot longer than 8 years.

It's outside the warranty. If you contact GM or any dealer, be sitting down so you don't hurt yourself when you take offense by them telling you the same thing.

I'd like to have headlights that work better than they do, so maybe I should expect GM/Buick to design some that actually work.

Life just doesn't work that way.

Do you park it in a garage? Sun is the killer of paint .
