I think🤔 I have my heart set on a LeSabre. However I notice on the pages of this forum there is mention of other Buick models, i.e. Park Avenue, LaCrosse and Regal. Do these models in the 1995-2005 model range all use the 3800 mk2 engine and '65 transmission?

Which in your opinion is best?🙂

3800 engine is well known for reliability if maintained properly. Tranny is the weak link in the drivetrain.
If buying a car in a Rust belt area of the country or near salt water the front and rear subframes should be inspected closely for rust and rot.

The LaCrosse doesn't appear to 2006, and both the 3800 and the new 3.6 are available. The 3.6s have already been well represented in the wrecking yards, even in rust free areas.

Same here with issues that I've read with the LaCrosse. My favorite is the 2004-2005 LeSabre (2003 is ok provided it was manufactured after February 2003).

See my post at 1 year ownership review

I would look for a smaller regal with a supercharged engine....or a park avenue with a supercharged engine, because they are cool. I've been driving a $1000 2000 lesabre for 4 years. The engine is bulletproof...now at 165k miles it needs a water pump, rear shocks and it occaisionally has a lean code. Plan to do the crank sensor, maf, intake + intake gaskets and coolant elbows.

Water pump is an easy replacement on this generation. Why do you want to change the crank sensor?

Supercharger? I see where you are coming from. Twenty or Thirty years ago I way say a Superchatger was a great idea. These days its just something else to go wrong.

Thank you for your guidance about gaskets etc.🥴
