on my way home i felt the trans being sluggish and then it started to have a low hum/vibration/grind feel. I got home and noticed me entire undercarriage and back window was covered in trans fluid. Well spots everywhere, not a full coverage. Anyways im trying to find out where i can find another transmission to replace it with but i have a few questions:

1. Can i use a 4T65E from any car that has the same trans? or does it have to be a 4T65E Directly out of another same year same engine rendezvous? Alot of cars use the 4T65E, but not sure if they are interchangeable.

2. At 160k miles, is it worth it to get a remanufactured, Rebuilt, or used?

3. Do i need to buy anything else since ill be replacing it myself? Like do i need a new torque converter?

4. Should i install one of those shift kits that everyone talks about?

5. Is the trans replacement job on these cars easy? Just unbolt 6 bolts and unplug the wires and drop it, then put new in? Or is it one of those situations u have to pull the engine or other parts out just to replace the transmission?

I know these 3.5L engines are great and last long, and at 160k miles i really wanna keep using this Rendezvous, but will def have to replace the transmission.

Why aren't you fixing the leak first before assuming you need a new transmission?

As Mel said fix the leak. If it had enough fluid to get you home chances are the trans didn't burn up. and stayed lubricated. Better that then wasting lodes of money and labor for nothing.

You may have lost enough fluid to go into limp mode. Hopefully it's just a problem with one of the tranny cooler lines. Good luck!
