clicking when I try to start

I have good batteries in my fobs, and I replaced the car battery. But when I push the start button the car clicks and no starter engagement. If I hold the brake and shift through the gears and back to park it used to start but now not even that works. whne I put it in reverse or one of the other gears and try it gives me a "shift to park" message, but never while its in park so I am not sure if it is a n safety switch issue? I would think if it was it would give me a "shift to park" even if it was in park.

anyway, please help if you can..

Do you own a voltmeter, if so what is the battery voltage?

I do, I can check it.. ok so now I am thinking.. (thanks to you) I just put the battery in because the old one was a bit weak, not for this issue...

Oh my gosh this started after i put the new one in.. You dont think?????

It appears so! but I did try and jump it and it still clicked, do you think I should disconnect this batt and then jump the car without the drain?

It's very dead, you need to put it on a charger or remove it and have it load tested?
