Hello everyone. My a/c clutch bearing is starting to howl and its only a matter of time before it seizes and I'm on the side of the road. Is it possible to use a shorter belt to bypass the a/c pulley or do I have to use a bypass pulley? I've tried the search feature and can't find any results. My a/c works just fine so I hate to remove the compressor but I know I'm on borrowed time and funds are tight to say the least.

Thanks!

This may help or at least give you an idea. There is also AC bypass pulley available from auto parts stores, but requires the removal of the AC compressor $35 to $40ish.

Fixed it! Turns out a 76 inch belt is perfect. 6PK1930 or 5060760 is the part number . I'll post pics later.

You CANNOT Do this. You would only be able to do this if you had a different water pump pulley with grooves (and assuming the pump works in reverse too..) You need the bypass pulley. You cannot get around that. you will throw your belt and likely overheat your car

I was brought here because of my question of did anyone know the size belt to use as a bypass for the AC compressor on a 2011 Buick Lacrosse CXL AWD with a 3.6L WITHOUT buying an actual bypass pulley. Long story short instead of doing things myself because I'm not used to working on a car that's "push button" to start I let a backyard mechanic put my ac compressor on and only when my belt kept slipping off I found out that I had a broken bolt that mounted the compressor and instead of the guy using an ez-out or tap n die kit to remove said bolt he drilled his own bolt hole in the mount to afix said compressor causing my belt to keep slipping off without warning REAL mechanic shop told me they dont have the equipment to remove the broken bolt and realign my compressor(to which i understand the fact that they do not want to be held liable for another mechanic's screw-ups) ive also looked at the bolt and found no signs of anyone trying to remove it so i myself took a tap and die kit plus bolt extractor kit to it but the bolt in question is seized far beyond the amount of money that i have already spent just to run it with the ac compressor. Please if anyone has an idea of that belt size or another solution contact me
Thanks
