erratic temp. reading

Hello I've got a 2004 LeSabre with 93K mis. My temperature gauge readings have been erratic lately. the gauge sometimes will not go to zero (C- mark) after shut off and cool down. and this is going to make it difficult to ever know if the car is actually over heating. Has anyone ever had...
