Buick Ownership
02 Lesabre
I have had an 02 Buick Lesabre for a few years now. It started having issues a few months back where it wants to stall when I'm coming to a stop. I go to get breakfast in the morning sometimes and it does fine starting up and getting there but wants to die at stops on my way back home. So it seems to get worse as it warms up. But I will go days where it'll be fine and not die at all. I've taken it to 2 different mechanics and one replaced the MAF sensor and now I had another mechanic try to fix it 2 days ago and he said he was getting weird readings from the MAP sensor, so he replaced it. They said the check engine light went off but it came back on shortly after getting it back. So it seems to only stay running when I am giving it lots of gas but when it dies, I have to hit the gas too fast and it jumps when putting it back into gear (trying to get out of people's way in the road and keep it running long enough to get going). So altogether Ive had the MAF and map sensors replaced and put a new battery in it because the old one was bad. It starts up every time without a hitch. But the problem lies after it's warmed up and I'm coming to a stop. Has anyone else had or seen similar issues?? I've bought a new fuel filter and IAC valve and plan to put them on to see if that helps. Just waiting for a warm enough day to get out and tinker with those parts and see if that helps. Any info would be appreciated 👍

You need to have your own code reader/scanner that can read LIVE data and learn how to use it. You may have an issue with vacuum leaks which are very possible with a car that is over 20 years old. It also could have problems with the EGR or EVAP system.

Without a scanner you're just guessing or at the mercy of some shops that may be guessing as well.

Sounds like the IAC valve issues I just had on a Durango.

It could easily be a vac leak, which has happened in my '97. I own a smoke machine because of this pig.

I'm having the same issue. We're you able to figure it out?

Sometimes my '97 would just up and die when slowing down, usually when making a turn

Bypassed the VAT and it went away.

Did not get any security or dash lights when it happened.
