Has anyone had this issue before, no resistance on the handle, cant open from either side, dont know if i can get the door panel off with the door closed

Yes, I had that problem with my 06. First it was the rear driver door, and within a week or so, the other rear door. I have read that this is a fairly common problem, due to inferior rear door locks. I tried to get the panels off, but was unable to do so, thinking I would destroy them. Took it to the dealer and paid around $800 (if I recall) for them to fix it. Angry that this was really a safety problem, I wrote to GM. They responded with some BS that rust builds up in the locks. Impossible in my case, as the car was oiled yearly since I bought it new, and the locks and hinges were extra lubed annually. Still, , they did give me a credit of $200 to use at the dealer.

Reach in and pull the inside door handle back as far as it would go, and then let it go, allowing it to 'snap' back or pull (don't let go/keep it pulling) the inside door latch (back driver side) from the inside while another person from the front driver side press the lock then unlock button and then release the inside door latch (back driver side). These may or may not work depending on what's really wrong. A locksmith may be able to pop it open and then you could pull the panel to see if a repair you want or can do.

Hi guys, just had a customer's 2006 Lucerne that I fixed here's my story.

Slow left rear window. Removed door skin and diagnosed the bad regulator but now door won't close, latch won't set. Tried holding the door closed and locking it which worked. With a lot of snow coming was important so have shut properly.

With a light and mirror I could see in and verified that both latches and lock lever moved as intended, tried combinations of locked and unlocked with both handles, applying force but no smoking gun. Removed the opposite side latch to compare but nothing found so a replacement was ordered. I then used a drill to drill out the two rivets holding the metal mounting plate on. They are hard steel compared to the mount plate so the pilot drill wanted to wander a lot before it'd create a centre. Once that was off I moved the inner lock tab manually and tried the handle with it finally opening. The lever meant to engage on the tab somehow popped off or otherwise became disconnected. Got the for open, removed and found that the lock and latches operated fine separate from the backing plate so something jammed up the lock mechanism.

Hope these pictures help some of you
