I just changed my thermostat. I found the stock temp is 195, but noticed an "updated" "aftermarket" temp of 180*. I see where people have said having it run a little cooler, is better. One person said it may get a little bit better mileage and has less wear and tear running a little cooler.
As we where finishing, a friend stopped by. He is a master Mechanic. When we told him I got a cooler temp, he brought up lots of stuff wrong with going with a lower temp.
It's going to get worse gas mileage. He brought up an old car, when it's cold, the choke comes on, what happens? It puts more fuel in.
On this car, all the sensors and fuel system is set up for a certain temperature. If it is colder, your car thinks it hasn't warmed up yet.
I drove home afterwords, it never got above 176* (bled it but still might have air, will do it again in the morning). I do keep in mind this is winter. Our summers are in the 90's and 100's, so it may be better in the summer then now.
Who ever thought of this 180* thing? Anybody have experience with using both?
Thank you,
Chris.
