Buick Ownership
1970 Buick Electra 225 4-door hardtop
I have recently claimed ownership of a very good condition 1970 Buick Eletra 225 4-door. It has a broken turn signal switch inside the steering column. Can anyone give me some advice on fixing this? Other than the turn signal switch there is nothing wrong with this awesome car. I didn't even have to pay for the car, I got the car in payment for painting a house!!! It is a California car with 73,336 ORIGINAL miles, the 455 runs like a champ, the tranny leaks because of bad seals, and the rear shocks are totally shot yet it sits level. The frame and body are straight and the paint looks great. There is only one dent on the entire car on the front bumper. All in all, I like to think that I got a good deal. Thanks for any responses that i get, I could use the help!

you have to replace tha turn signal cancelation switch,,

Thanks. I found what I needed to do to fix that problem. But now have a much different one, my engine runs just fine when you get on the gas, but when you are at a stop or just idling it bogs down and chugs like it is going to stall and sometimes it does stall. I live in Colorado and the car was driven here from Riverside California. Can you or any one give me some advice on the timing? Such as how much advance. Also changed the spark plugs, advice on the correct gap would be appreciated also. Man i have so many little issues with this car... it does drive really well, it'll cruise at 115 like a champ. And getting there ain't no problem, but the car stalling out when i stop is getting on my nerves and i can't seem to find the reason. It runs rich, and it keeps trying to run after i shut it down too. Anyway thanks for any advice, and if you have questions ask them.

It most likely has a Rochester 4 barrel on her.Check for vacuum leaks, that will give a rough idle. Check the accelerator pump, make sure it is squirting fuel in the carb when the throttle is depressed, it may likely will need a rebuild. Replace the rear shocks but leave the springs alone. Springs give you ride height, where shocks give a smooth ride. If you have time and get a chance to go, find out if there are any swap meets in your area, great place to find used parts and knowledge.
