My first post to this very informative forum....
I have owned a '93 Century 4-dr. for about three months and recently took it in for an oil change, where I found out that the power steering pump and steering rack needed to be replaced. After kissing most of my income tax refund goodbye, I drove the car home, mostly impressed with the improvement to the steering, braking and smoothness of acceleration. But when I parked the car, I heard a low-pitched noise while steering into the parking space. I returned to the shop a couple of days later to have the car checked out; after a technician test drove the car, the shop re-flushed the lines and added a line conditioner (forgive me if my technical explanations are incomplete; this isn't my area of expertise). When I got the car back, the driver's side window was open all the way; no big deal since I'm in Southern California. But when I got home, the window would not close. In fact, none of the buttons on the power window master switch, including the lock button, would function. I drove back to the shop where they explained that the tech opened the window before the car went into the service bay. The manager tried the switch, only confirming that it was not working. He made a number of calls to local auto parts suppliers in the area and none of them had a master switch available. He suggested a local repair facility that specializes in electrical systems and made a call to confirm that the would be able to do the work. In a bit of frustration, I drove back home with an open window.
Well, when I got home, I suddenly remembered that the switch had previously exhibited signs of failure just a couple of days before my first trip to the shop. Remembering that opening and closing the door seemed to fix the issue before, I tried it again. Nothing. Next, I drove the car around the block, parked it again and, with the engine still running, I opened the door and pressed the lock switch. It clicked. Next, I tried the driver side window button and - voila! - it worked. At least now the window was closed again. But after turning off and restarting the engine, the window switch failed again.
Sorry for the long narrative, but is is wrong for me to assume that the problem is not the switch and that it is something else causing this problem? If I'm not wrong, what could be causing the problem? And if I am wrong, where the heck am I going to find a power window master switch? Even EBay doesn't have any listed.
Thanks in advance for any assistance or advice you good folks can provide.
