Hi Everyone. I recently picked up a 97 Lesabre. Got it from a friend who swears by them. I need to adjust the wipers lower on the windshield as they are currently 1/3 up on the glass. Can't figure out how to do it.

Also I'm trying to replace a well worn set of Blades. The mount is the pin type and I can't figure out for the life of me how to get the old wipers off.

Your help is most appreciated.

Billy

How far do the wipers go at the end of the stroke? Are they going off the glass? I am suspecting there may be a problem with the linkage. You may need to take off the plastic cowling to see.

To remove the wiper arms and adjust their position on the hub...
There's a small metal hook sticking out from under the top side of each wiper arm at the hub. Raise the wiper blade off the glass a good distance and you can pull that hook out and it will suspend the wiper blade off the glass. That holds the pressure of the spring so that whole arm can be pulled off at the hub. Then it can be repositioned and slide back down. Then lift arm, push sliding link back under, and let arm go against glass.

There's a metal tang that drops into the groove in the middle of the pin over which the new wiper blade slides. It's a part of the wiper blade itself. Use a small screwdriver to push that tang down so it's not keeping the blade from pulling off the metal pin. Work the blade some and it will come off.

Take your time with this part. If your buddy hasn't been changing them regularly you could have the same problem as my car did. I ended up snapping the passenger side arm!

Cover the windshield with some towels and spray some penetrating liquid on them. Let it sit for an hour. Works like a charm. Remember it's not a race! Slow and steady man....

Sir,

Here is the procedure for a '93 Riv; wwe also have a 97 LeSabre and I have prreformed this adjustment oon both cars. They are very similar.

Do note that you have the "hidden wipers" on your car. Ther wipers disappear unter the hood lip when not used. The mechanism provides for this.

JCC

Iwould check this too.

You say they are 1/3 way up on window (when off and not in use?) If so, when you turn them on do they run several inches past where they should normally stop and reverse.?

Slapping the windshield post (on the drivers side) or, wiping too far into the drivers area (if on the passenger side.) ?

If this is the case it would seem that all you need to do is to remove the arm and reposition it on the post in a more correct position.
Someone described how to pull that little tab out and lock the wiper arm in an "up" position. Us a small screw driver to release the spring locking thing, and just wiggle the arm off the post.
Reposition as needed.

Yup repostion the arms. Maybe someone replaced the wiper motor and didn't line it up right.
