My father gave me a 2000 LeSabre Custom 165k that originally had the leveling system in the back. When the shocks went bad 2 years ago he swapped that system out with the standard (coil over shocks/struts not sure) suspension. Since the front struts are bad the front is low and the back is up a little high. Here is my question, will replacing just the front struts level out the car or do I need to also replace the springs? I'm thinking I will need to change out the springs since the back had new springs installed during the swap over. It's a hard decision because a strut cost $85 but a complete assembly with the spring is $209. I thought about putting on the struts and then if it didn't level it enough replacing the springs. But that's cost prohibitive.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Mick

Struts dampen the bounce in the springs. I doubt that new struts will raise the front of the car. I don't know what the reasonable life of springs are. Is it possible that the shocks in the back raised the car more than they should have with the front springs still in OK shape? Do you see a break or crack in either of the springs?
