2001 Buick Century - Rack and pinion

I was hoping to confirm what I have been told by a mechanic. I haven't used him before so before I pay for a substantial repair, I want to be sure I am being told the correct info.

I have a power steering leak that drains about halfway every 4 or 5 days and then the steering starts to scream at me. When the fluid is topped off, the steering is fine.

I am being told that the power steering assembly needs to be replaced to the cv joint. I am also being told that in order for this to be done the cradle needs to be dropped.

Is this accurate?

I know this is an old thread, but what did you ever find out regarding your PS problem? I also have a 2001 Century with a potential leak.
