2002 Lesabre
I was having an issue with my information center on my 2002 Lesabre. It was showing garbled info. You could mash against the top of the cluster and it would clear up. So I took the cluster out to investigate the connection. I reinstalled the cluster and as soon as I started the car the speedometer did a sweep and clocked pointing straight down. So now when I'm going 40-50 mph the needle shows like maybe 10 mph. The HUD still reads the correct mph. I took the front cover off the cluster and manually moved the needle to where it should be and the speedometer works fine. But as soon as i go to start the car again, it does that full sweep and ends up pointing straight down.

Hi,

Type "drspeedometer", without the quotations, into your favorite search engine.

Surely there is a procedure to recalibrate the speedometer. I manually put the needle to where it should be and as soon as I turn the car off and back on the needle does a full sweep and then points straight down making it read slow by 30-40 mph. I've seen on other makes this happens sometimes when changing the battery. Their fix is a recalibration procedure.

The cluster may have a short and apparently nothing has been attempted since the first post 9/20. A professional scanner or Tech2 can test the cluster but it's not a DIY. Disconnect battery and hope that it reset, have a shop check it out or use as is. Maybe someone else knows as not sure if replacing the vehicle speed sensor is the answer.
