Ran a wire from the fan relay to the battery, fan #1 came on, repeated the same for fan #2. It seems that when my coolant gauge inside the car hits the halfway point, I don't hear the fan coming on and I am concerned that this could become a major problem when we get more humid weather. Once I unplugged the coolant temperature sensor the fan comes on. The fuses look good, however, I am not skilled enough when it comes to relays, etc. So, I am looking for dome opinions regarding this issue. The only repair I made to the vehicle recently is replacement of the blower motor resistor because some of my fan speeds inside the vehicle were not working. Plus, I replaced the coolant temperature as well.

Thanks,

Mike

does one of the fans come on as soon as the ac is turned on? it should. as for the other fan not coming on at the half way mark, that depends on the thermostat rating, ie if its a 195 degree t-stat, the fan wont come on until the temp gets to 212-215 degrees, which is probably close to midway. take the sensor out and heat it up with a heat source like a heat gun and see if you can get the fan to kick on. when it does read the temp on the gauge.

On this model of Century, the gauge will make it just past the half mark before the fans kick on.

It is a little hot, but that's how they were set from the factory.

Best thing to do is put a toggle switch for the fans so you control 'em.

I wouldn't say that the halfway mark is a little hot. The coolant fans should come on by 220*, which is the next mark past half. I always used to get nervous when my temp gauge got to about half until I looked at the actual temps using a scanner. Halfway is about 195*, which is what the thermostat is probably rated at in the car.

Mine cruising sits right under the half way mark. If sitting long enough, or in traffic, it goes abit passed the half way mark before the fans kick on, witch is at 220* witch for me, I find abit to hot for no reason....

But it doesn't bother me to much, as I rarely do city driving, or am in traffic.

Yeah, I still don't like it when it goes past half way when I'm in stop and go traffic either. I usually just turn on the A/C or defrost, and let it cool down.

My A/C doesn't work. System leaks, it works if I fill it up, but doesn't take very long to leak all out, I don't mind not having A/C so I dont' bother fixing it.

BU Tech, how should I wire a toggle switch in? Is there any way to wire it so that if I forget to monitor the temp gauge, the auto on system as currently will turn the fans on. My fans will come on if A/C is activated, however when pulling my small boat, the needle will go past halfway mark and I have to turn Ac on. WHERE is the temp sensor located. I was told my 3.1 has 2 temp sensors. Would it confuse computer to take thermostat out? I have 78,000 mi. On car and had to have computer replaced at 59,000 as car would go to idle or shut down going uphill. Also, I myself with help of youtube replaced the infamous intake manifold gasket that started leaking at 63,000 mi. At 11 years on car. Have my fingers crossed as there was a lot of pitting of head on upper left side of where herd and intake mate. Thanks to anyone who can answer above 2 questions.
