I have a 2006 Rendezvous that for a while has been hard shifting every once in a while. Fluid and filter was changed about 6 months ago. The hard shifting did not go away after the change. I was driving the car Saturday and started getting hard shifting each time I started from a red light. I was about 110 miles from home and other than the hard shifting the car was running good. I started going up a hill on the highway and all of a sudden is was like the car was in neutral. I coasted to the side of the road and tried all the gears on the transmission and no movement at all.

I got the car home Sunday and checked everything I could think of and could not find anything wrong. No check engine light or codes. No movement when I try to drive fwd or reverse. I did get the little sound/movement that you normally get when you shift in to a gear, the one where everything is tightening up as it tried to move the car.

But I did not get it every time. only about 25% of the time.

There is no grinding noise, transmission dipstick has fluid on it, does have bubbles in the fluid tho.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

How does the fluid look? A clutch pack is probably worn out, needs a rebuild.

fluid looks good, just bubbles in it.

seems like trans lost fluid pressure, as when the pump goes bad or a pressure line or seal or pick up tube or filter etc. Bubbles may be due to fluid not properly circulating under pressure.

remove the bottom pan and check around for anything obvious that came off or loose. The valve body is a bit involved to get to, on the side of transmission so need to remove tire, bearing, axel etc.

there wont be a check engine light but should be obdii codes, use a good reader that is able to read extended codes.

Every shop will say rebuild.
