I have a 2010 Lacrosse that is a great car but its computer is driving me nuts. For two years it has randomly turned on and off the check engine light. Given codes to replace cat converter, O2 sensors and Mass air controllers, even after they had just been replaced and when the 2nd one was installed, the light would still come on, then suddenly it would go off for up to 6 months at a time. When it is humid, the service stabilitrack light comes on until the car is turned off and re-started, then it goes off for a month or so. Now, for the past month, the check engine light has remained on and in the last week, nearly (but not always) time I start the car, I get a message "3 keys programmed" and the radio and AC are off and have to be turned on; and, the windows don't roll down for a couple of minutes. DOES ANYONE HAVE A CLUE WHAT WILL FIX THIS THAT WON'T COST A FORTUNE?

The cheapest thing to try would be to disconnect the battery for a short while and then reconnect it. May not fix it, but it's worth a try.

Yesterday I discovered the issues I've had for the past two years that no dealer could completely figure out, even after spending nearly $2,000 in repairs and changing out parts, was a bad battery. The front two cells had ruptured and were leaking and it was only producing 8 volts. Surprisingly, the car would still start. I had it checked and the testing device showed "Bad Battery". Had it replaced and without resetting the computer, all the warning lights went off. It asked me to roll down and then back up the driver and passenger windows, the dinged and now it works like it did when it was new. The engine even runs smoother. So, my advice is, If you have any issues with the car's computer, check your battery.

Also, keep an eye on the charging voltage, if it changes much from the norm, you probably have a battery issue. It's a very easy way to keep an eye on the charging system and find a problem before it strands you.

There is no voltage gauge on these cars 🙁
