Buick Ownership
2014 LaCrosse
Long-time car guy, Dad was an Executive VP with GM in the 60s and 70s, so we always had a program car or two in the driveway. I was a high-line NIASE certified mechanic many years ago, and have owned and maintained Mercedes-Benz products for 37 years, so I'm pretty confident I can deal with anything on a car.

I recently became the owner of a 2014 LaCrosse belonging to my mother-in-law. She was the second owner, purchasing it In 2016. It has been well maintained and only has 60k on the clock. It's a nice car.

What I'm wondering is if the software, Intellilink and telematics, has been updated in the past? I can't find anything in the records that would suggest it, but I can't even find a reference to software versions online so I can check. It does not have WiFi, so any updates would be through an upload from the USB ports or an MDI 2 scanner.

I'm thinking about getting an MDI 2 in order to maintain the car and possibly update everything. I know that software updates aren't going to make a significant difference in anything, but I'm sort of detail-oriented about making sure things are updated as much as possible.

Does anyone have any recommendations and/or sources for information? Thanks!

What engine?

IIRC, for the 2.4, the terrain forums discuss a VVT software update which provided smoother idle but don't know if that was incorporated by 2014 or for the LaCrosse.

It’s a 3.8l six. Sorry for leaving that out, didn’t think it would matter. Thanks!
