Just bought this car, i have to go get it yet. ...had the problem when i bought it. When looking in over and under this car i could only figure that it must be on the back lower passenger side of the engine. The power steering was working fine when running and driving but telling me to service the power steering. I wondered if it was electric . Put it in the key in the run position engine off and i could not turn the wheel. Started motor and it turned nicely, so i assume it is a hydraulic system and in need of fluid. What Fluid to use?

Did you check the owner's manual for the type of fluid to use?

In my 2010 you can see the cap with the steering wheel on it just left-centre to the side of the engine cover:

It’s most likely electronic uses a electric motor instead of a pump so you’ll have to get it scanned to determine the problem

I thought it might be electric, but with key on run engine off i did not have PS, engine on it had PS which leads me to beleive traditional hydraulic.

My brother in law says this one is electric PS as others have suggested. I was fooled by the fact that PS did not come on when in the key on position with the engine off, but came on when i started the engine. He says it is set up to work only in the run position.

The only version that has hydraulic PS is the 3.6 with AWD as stated in the owners manual page 10-23.
