- 2015 Regal 2.0T II
Back in January 2021, my car started stuttering slightly as I accelerated up hills. This would go away and come back periodically until it got much worse very quickly and would start to stutter and shake violently anytime I accelerated and was losing power.
I ended up taking it to the dealership to see if they could fix it (ended up not being under warranty..) and they said the Diagnostic Report was:
P0303 - Faulty Ignition Coil 3rd Cylinder
They wanted to replace the Ignition Coil and the spark plugs and charge me an amount that I was very uncomfortable paying. I did a bit of research and bought an ignition coil and spark plugs from O'Reilly's for a quick DIY project
Ignition Coil: STD UF680 Cop Coil $92.99
Spark Plugs: OEM Iridium Plugs ACD 41-125 for $12.99 each (4 total for $51.96)
The coil had a lifetime warranty and spark plugs have a 7-year warranty.
I am not mechanically inclined, so I browsed YouTube to find the location of the coils and how to replace the spark plugs (can't find the exact videos, but there are plenty) and was finished with replacing the coils and plugs within 45 minutes which saved me $400.
It has been 7 months since then and the Regal is running just fine again. I just wanted to share in case anyone else was getting that code or problem and wasn't sure what to do. I was overwhelmed with the amount of terrible advice I found on the internet and hopefully this will help at least one person out there. You can bring your car to Autozone, O'Reilly's, Advanced Auto Parts, etc. to get the error code to make sure this is the same issue. Good luck, you got this!
