2016 Encore - iphone "Please Try Again" error

I have a 2016 Encore and have always played music through my iPhone X through the ApplePlay/IntelliLink system. For the past two weeks or so, when I connect my iPhone, it will play as normal for about 90 seconds, then pop up an error saying "Please try again". Any clues to a solution here?
 
do you know anyone else with a similar model phone that you can run a comparison test to determine if the issue is the phone or the car?
 
Are you using bluetooth or the cord? Unpair and repair if bluetooth. Try a new cord if wired.
