I recently have gotten my 94 RM sedan on the road, however I noticed an issue. On a relative flat surfaces it drives fine, I occasionally have to give it a little gas at the shift times. There is one hill on my way home from collage that I get a loss of power but no rpm surge from what I can tell. There is no grinding or anything from the transmission. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

do you have a check engine light on? you say gotten on the road, does that mean it sat for a long time or something else? if it sat for a long time did you replace the fuel filter and check the air filter?

There is no check engine light on at this time. The air filter is fine, my understanding is the fuel filter is in the tank. There is no engine sputter when I loose power, been through a few fuel pump fails so I know the symptoms. It accelerates fine and drives smoothly, just when its a nice angled hill it just seems to be a power loss, like a drop of power transfer when I'm trying to climb it.

i checked both Autozone and NAPA and they both show an inline fuel filter. Have you actually looked under the car near the gas tank and along the side rails for the filter? Is this hill steep enough that you would expect the transmission to downshift? if so have you changed the filter and fluid in the transmission at any time?

The transmission fluid is red and I've topped it off, that was the first thing I checked. I assumed it did not have a inline filter since my 96 RMW did not list one. It should downshift but since the hill is at 50 mph with cars behind me. Some pissy drivers out there. Would the fuel filter be a likely culprit? To answer your question from before, The sedan sat for 3 weeks. I had been moving it around to keep things moving, I do not know about before I bought it. This week was the first time I got to drive it for extended periods of time.

My '94 sedan had this exact same thing happen while driving from Branson, MO to St. Louis, MO. Lots of hills for the car to climb. On level ground it ran perfectly. While climbing hills, the car would lose power/speed and if I feathered the gas pedal it would be fine. Once home I had the transmission fluid changed and the transmission filter changed as well. Just for grins, the mechanic changed the inline fuel filter. It's been fine since.

Please understand that I know practically nothing about car mechanics and have all work done by a great independent shop.

Hope this helps.

Please let us know if it fixes your problem.

That sounds like my issue. Ill have my garage change the trans oil and filter. l pay to have things fixed that I dont want to mess up what I dont know how to do.

Start with the fuel filter! they are like 5 bucks and you can do it yourself!

The fuel filter was like 20 bucks at Carquest, never saw one that small and with the holder like that. I installed it about 2 days ago and its running better. It gotten better at up shifting on that problem hill. Ill run some Lucas injector cleaner it and see if that helps it. Will update if something happens.

My garage got back to me on the 94 RMS a few days ago. They found a air leak after the MAF, I put my new air intake on and they replaced a cracked vacuum line. However, it has a slight miss at idle. The shop owner said he located oil dripping where the optispark is located, and that the optispark looks like the original part. He told me if oil has gotten into the opti-housing, that might be the cause of the miss at idle. He will be doing a cylinder compression test hopefully monday. What optispark replacement do yall go for? I aint going for the chinese knock-offs.

Compression test is done, verdict is that all cylinders are within specifications. He suggests that mabe a filter in a injector clogged up , bad spark plug wire, or needs new optispark. Is there a post for removing and cleaning the injectors? What is a good set of performance minded plug wires? I'm leaning towards Taylor Spiro-Pro wires, any yall use these and how good these are or not.

Taylor wires are good, but not as low in resistance & heat resistant as MSD. Do you have any visible misfire codes to indicate which cylinder(s) are misfiring? Misfire must be monitored on an scanner as live data, not stored data, since it takes many misfires over a period of time to store a code.

I was not told of any codes. Is obd1 capable of live data? I know the plugs wires needs to be changed, due to that the old plugs I had changed had rust spots on them. Any particular MSD wires?
