My 1994 Roadmaster WAGON ABS Proportioning Valve, or the pump unit some people call it, started leaking. I can find other units but they are different part numbers than on the one I have in my car. My unit is from a roadmaster wagon. Does anyone know the actual difference between the different units?

Has anyone replaced their original WAGON BPM (Brake Pressure Modulator) with a BPM from a Roadmaster Sedan, Chevy Caprice Sedan or maybe a Cadillac?

Has anyone bought a new unit? If so how much? The dealer wants $2000.00. I see online sites asking $1500.00. My local junk yards $35.00.

I know the part looks the same from vehicle to vehicle but are there internal differences? Why the different part numbers between Wagon and Sedan and Wagon and Chevy if it is the same part?

Thanks, I appreciate any info anyone has.

If you are talking about the Electronic Brake Control (Valve) Item #16 (View E) Part # 12455422, then the Product Fitment/Applications includes the following vehicles.

First of all, thank you for replying. However, I am not having a problem finding the part. My question relates to part numbers. In your post you refer to item #16. (If you are talking about the Electronic Brake Control (Valve) Item #16 (View E) Part # 12455422, then the Product Fitment/Applications includes the following vehicles.). Item #16 is the part I am talking about.

You also give a link to Amazon for the part. It calls it ( ACDelco 12455422 GM Original Equipment ABS Pressure Modulator Valve ). Your other link shows the same unit. However, it has a different part number: it is listed as part# 10208500. Both are the same picture. My unit off my wagon is part number 10208500, the original GM unit. Both numbers are supposed to be actual GM part numbers. The part number listed by the dealer for a roadmaster sedan is 10232762.

My question is: Is there a difference? The reason....I can find lots of parts that look the same in the junk yard for $35.00. They do not have the same number as the wagon(10208500). A roadmaster sedan has it's own part number. A Caprice has it's own number. I am having trouble finding a junk yard wagon. I am not sure why GM would use the same part and have different part numbers for different cars. The dealer says the units are different. Not just one dealer. A few dealers.

I am looking for someone (though doesn't look like it's going to happen) who has replaced the unit in their wagon with one from one of the cars listed in your list of cars:
Buick Estate Wagon 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994
Buick Hearse 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994
Buick Limo 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994
Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994
Buick Roadmaster Sedan 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994
Chevrolet Caprice 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994
Chevrolet Hearse 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994
Chevrolet Impala Super Sport 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994
Chevrolet Limo 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994
Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser 1991, 1992

I think you and the dealer(s) are confusing Part #10232762 "MODULE. Electronic Brake Control" Item #2 (View A) with Part #12455422 VALVE Electronic Brake Control Item #16 (View E). They are two distinctly different parts. In addition, Part #10232762 is also a "MODULE" but it is not compatible with the 1994 RMW. It shows that it was used for 1991-1992-1993 only.

BTW, the compatibility list I posted for the (VALVE Part #12455422 Item #16), was copied directly from the GM parts site. So therefore, the part is the same on all cars listed!

There was a recall on the ABS pump unit on my 92 Roadmaster, back in 99 or 2000 IIRC. An external plug with an Allen head could corrode right through leading to sudden brake failure. It had already happened on mine. I fixed it by welding a plug in the plug. When the recall notice came, I thought, "what the heck, I may as well get a brand new ABS unit on GM's tab", so I took the car in. The dealer was pissed -- they were just replacing the plugs rather than the unit (not what the notice said -- I suspect they were scamming GM). They couldn't get my plug out anymore, since I had filled the allen socket head so they had to replace my whole unit.

Depending on what went wrong with yours, and whether that car was ever serviced under the recall, and whether there is a time limit on the recall, maybe you can get a new one for free too.

The part I am looking for is the Brake Pressure Modulator Valve assembly 10208500. It looks like the picture in my post. It looks like the Brake Pressure Modulator Valve for a roadmaster sedan and chevy caprice. However, the part numbers are all different. Just to clarify. When I talked to the dealer(s) they both said the same thing. After removing a unit from a roadmaster sedan and a caprice I can see the number on them. The wagon, sedan, and caprice all have different numbers. Why.

Yes, I heard about the recall. They told me mine was not in the recall. Mine is 1994. I am curious what you welded on yours. The reason I need to replace is because of a leak developed in what looks like a plug on the side.

That was many years ago (15?) and I didn't take photos, but as I recall, it was a hex socket plug, located on the side of the unit, and the leak was through the socket of the plug itself. IIRC, the threads were unusual. I found a bolt with the right size hex head, welded the head into the plug, reinstalled the plug and cut the end of the bolt off. End of leak. Not long afterwards (maybe a year?) I got the recall notice from GM.
