Unknown Electrical Problems - does not run.

Car does not run! This is being sold as a parts car or a fix-it-yourself. The car interior is in great condition - it belonged to my grandfather from '96 to two years ago when he gave it to my wife and I. The interior leather is in great condition, the tires are quite new and while the body has a few scratches (it is 17 years old) there are no significant dents or dings.
Over the past year the car has developed strange electrical problems and we don't want to invest the money in seeking them out. The battery is currently dead but last time it ran (2 weeks ago) it ran extremely rough, barely limping home with the check engine light on. It may be a simple problem, it may be a fatal one - it's on and off and we don't have the time or money to try to fix it.
Until the electrical problems kicked in the car ran great. The car was regularly serviced through its life, and was treated well by my grandfather.
The car has current registration and a clean title. Email with any questions - my schedule is flexible and I can be available during weekdays if you want to take a look.
