!996 Roadmaster steering

My 1996 Roadmaster 5.7L power steering was acting jerky. Finally the belt broke and I can't turn the steering pump by hand. Do I have to replace the pump and will that solve the problem?

I do not think that pump will turn by hand, have you tried a wrench? If it seized I would suspect you would have heard a loud squeal before the belt broke.

Did/do you have a slow, intermittent leak from the water pump causing the belt to slip?
