I have a 2008 Lucerne with 235K miles. A couple years ago I lost my catalytic converter due to a pothole-type situation. I replaced it with an very inexpensive aftermarket one. I've run with the cheap cat for two or three years with no performance issues but the car will throw a P420 code when it sits idling for a few minutes. I've tried the spark-plug extender work-around, but it was unsuccessful.

Now I have to get my State's emissions inspection. The State's test includes an extended period of idling so I'm certain the car won't pass.

I need to replace the catalytic converter, but really don't want to pay the price for GM one. Has anyone had good results with a particular make/model/brand of aftermarket catalytic converter? Any kind of input or suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks

I had a P420 on my 2013 Verano. Replaced it with a Walker Cat $350 ( it had the original GM cat on it ) and two new Denso O2 sensors. No more codes, and passed Massachusetts inspection.
