I went to change my air filter - and the clamp would not work. I took it to my mechanic to ensure I wasn't doing anything wrong. He worked on it for quite a bit to see if he could get the clamp to work and he could not. I need to get a new one. the problem is - in order to get one for my 2011 Buick Regal, 2.4 liter, I have to buy the entire hose (which I do not need).

Two questions:
1. Can I use a standard clamp - or do I have to use the one specifically with the hose
2. Does anyone know where I can get just the clamp without having to spend almost $200 for a hose I don't need?

Thanks in advance

I’m not familiar with the 2.4 layout. Typically if it’s a special clamp it’s because there’s a raised piece on the duct itself and the clamp has a slot that lines up with this raised section. In the past I’ve used a standard clamp and removed that raised section. Definitely not the correct way but it works. Other than that all I can think of is trying a junkyard.

Aircraft ductwork can be the same diameter as the intake duct on a car, depending on the application. skygeek.com might be worth a look. And just because they’re for an airplane doesn’t mean they’re priced like one.

Thank you so much for your response. You are correct in that there is a raised section on my tube. I can only think the reason it is on there is to minimize movement of the clamp itself. Otherwise, the raised section doesn't appear to have a purpose. There is also a 'cut out' portion that, I think is for the same reason. IT makes me think - I could really use any standard clamp

Thanks Joe for your thoughts - I'll take a look

That’s the exact purpose of the raised section, to minimize movement. It also positions the tightening screw where the manufacturer wanted it away from any possible place it could rub, but I believe that’s a by product. The times I’ve removed those sections I used a razor blade and then a little sandpaper to get it flush. Obviously I’d suggest removing it from the car and stuffing a rag down the hole before doing it so you’re not introducing that contamination to the engine.

My mechanic last night tried to help me out as I took the part to him to ensure I was doing everything properly. He struggled with it. Then today, one of my colleagues at work - tried to help me fix it - and I might just be able to use it. The problem for me is I'm not quite as strong as the guys are and my hands are pretty tiny. I just don't have the same brut strength as I'm a woman - but I'm gonna give it a try when I get home. Here's where I wish I were a little stronger physically. If I can't get it to work - I'm going to consider doing your suggestion - and there is no way I'm paying $200 for a part that should cost me less than $10.

I understand. We’ve all struggled with things and I don’t believe it’s a strength issue. The clamp shouldn’t be that difficult. Have you checked with any parts stores? I’ve seen those type clamps in the help sections before and you could possibly find one that fits. It’s worth a shot. If you’re anywhere close to Nashville I have a few you can try.
