I just got my Gold Box Deals of the Day from Amazon and it was for Actron scanners - it shows the CP9550 regular at $124 now for $47.99. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on one today for myself.

Here's the link to the deal - http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=xs_gb_l...A2RCW07565AM45R&pf_rd_i=20&pf_rd_p=1740370942

Anyone have any comments or recommendations on Actron scanners? Worth buying? Which one for cheapest? Which one for more advanced diagnostics?

The cp9550 will only read and erase engine codes and will not read ABS codes. If your willing to spend a little more money (250.00), I would recommend the CP9580A which reads both engine and abs codes, gives you live data as well a driving data, and also recommendations on what to check based on reported common fixes by mechanics.

I purchased this model because I was having major problems with the ABS system, and this helped me look in the proper problem areas. The CP9580A will also report pending codes (Codes that have not yet been severe enough or often enough to set off the check engine light) and the CP9550 will not.

The CP9580A is also updateable whereas the CP9550 is not.

Selling price for the CP9550 in my area range from 69.99 to 89.99 pending on where you go. The 124.00 that amazon says is the suggested retail price.

Thanks for the feedback Nfortin198 - it really helps.

I was thinking I would get the CP9580A - it's also included in the deal - they've got it priced at $142.98.

Sounds like that might be the one for me.

UPDATE

So, I went with the CP9580AL - L means a hard case comes with it. It's more than I wanted to spend but I think the investment now will pay off later. I'll post back later after it's delivered and I've had a chance to work with it on the PA. I'm really looking forward to using the live data features to see how well everythings working.
