ok.. this car has two hvac heater actuators for the duel climate control system.. the dash controls are the push button led setup.. not the one with the two sliding bars.. I can turn off the duel control by pushing the off button twice.. my problem is that the drivers side will not close the door completely. therefore it will not cool properly.. also it seems like the passenger side doesn't get as hot as the drivers side.. I tested the drivers side. as it turns to close the door to cool I heard a popping sound coming from the actuator near the end of closing the door.. I figured it was a bad gear inside.. so I found one at the salvage, but the pin set for the power board was different.. I did notice that the gears looked newer and some what better.. so I inserted my board into the other housing and used the better gears and motor.. when tested there was movement from side to side but not all the way to either end.. just like the one I took out.. it seems to stop both ways like a 16th of an inch from both ends.. I didn't know if the blue gear on the board and the large white gear going out into the door had to be position in a certain way or if the computer automatically resets it.. I put the gears back in the same way they came out and moved the actuator to the middle then inserted into the door.. witch also has or at least feels like it has full motion from open to close.. I don't now if I may have one of those black air sensors gone bad or if both actuators are bad and working against each other.. all other functions seem to work normally.. I have noticed that the a/c compressor seems to be turning on then back off after I have turned off the hvac system.. any ideas on were to start? what to do what to do?..

The actuators actually have 255 discrete positions within their movement range.

To allow the actuators to find their range there is a simple reset procedure.

I cannot guarantee that this will solve your problem but if the actuator you have put together is workable and only needs to be reset this just may do the trick.

Put the car in key on engine off - turn off the A/C - and leave it this way for 3 mins - I always do 5 just to make sure.

During this time the A/C systems senses the key on engine off status and begins the reset. You can hear the actuators moving in increments - that means the reset is working.

After this time just turn the key off and then you can start the car.

All of your actuators should then be repositioned correctly.

what does the bolded and underlined parts mean?

is that a certain key position on the column?

andrewjs18 - that just means to turn the key to the on position but to not actually start the car. Some people just say KOEO for key on engine off.

Hope this helps - let us know how it goes.

I tried this ,I turned my key on and left it for 5 minutes ,but I didn't hear nothing. My actuator doesn't work. I was hoping this would help.2004 buick lesabre ,limited

Disconnect battery for a couple of minutes. Reconnect and start car, don’t touch anything, let run for two to three minutes, then turn off. Restart after 10 seconds and no more than 30 seconds. Test to confirm actuators reset themselves. Worked for me after trying a half dozen other methods. 2002 Buick lasabre limited, automatic hvac controls.

This is a 7-yr old thread & no feedback from the OP since 5/21/14. If he/she did not get the problems resolved, I suppose we will never know or here the outcome! I hate reading OLD threads!

i feel like they are all coordinated and the frequency they revive a thread from 2011, 2014, or 2009 seem oddly on schedule now lol

my solution was for the ‘next’ guy looking for the fix. Sorry to step on your insecurities.

yeah we may be the two people bent out over your post but youre the one who made it. this is a tango regardless of who is leading 🙂

makes it al ittle weird with the third wheel but the difference between 2 and 3 is a slap on the wrist or insider trading.

A late answer is better than none, but on most other forums they get locked so no additional posts can be made.

So have the admin lock them or accept they will be posted "To Infinity... and Beyond!"

I'm not sure how Buzz Lightyear would feel about the SW reference LOL.

But seeing how some post go into a dark hole with no follow up or repair answers the occasional bump with a repair options at a later date, sometimes years, may help others.

Thank you!!! This worked in the first try!

Hello,

I have a 2001 lesabre with 2 slide controls hvac. I replaced drivers side actuator that did not move when you changed positions on slider. Ac would blow out pass cold, but was 10 degrees warmer in middle and 15 degrees warmer on drivers side. It has new AC components(compressor, condenser, accumulater/dryer, and orifice tube under the hood, was properly vacuumed, proper weighed amount of refrigerant and oil was added. The replacement drivers side actuator now rotates when you change positions on slider but its still mostly blowing on the windshield. I have tried multiple reset options including those found on Buick forum posts above with no success.

Could be unrelated, but previously the recirculation button did not work, now it works.

If anyone has any additional procedure, not listed above, please share it.

Also, I read somewhere not to power them up before and i did not.

Thanks in advance.

I wanted to update. I removed and finagled the mechanism seemingly forever for a second time that attaches to the actuator that controls the levers and eventually got it to work. It seems to be working, whether it is optimized, who knows?
